Source code was stolen from Microsoft

Microsoft has confirmed that the source code of their projects, including Windows 7, is contained in a database that the Lapsus hacker group published on GitHub. The company said that they were aware of the problem, and it was being addressed internally.

The case

The Lapsus hacker group, which was also very active last month, has published another database on the web. The vast majority of the 37 GB package, around 90%, contains source code from Microsoft, some of which is used to power the Bing search engine. According to experts, the information includes confidential Bing Maps and Cortana data and information from internal correspondence.

What is Cortana?

Cortana is a digital assistant created by Microsoft. It is available on Windows 10-11 devices and can perform tasks such as setting reminders, sending emails, and answering questions. Cortana uses artificial intelligence to learn about the user over time and provide more personalized assistance. Microsoft has also announced plans to make Cortana available on Android and iOS devices in the future.
