Read a forgotten Wi-Fi password in Windows 10

If you have ever forgotten your WLAN network password, then you might know how frustrating it can be to go through the process of resetting your wireless router just so that you can access the internet once again. Thankfully, Windows 10 has a built-in way for you to read your Wi-Fi password without having to reset your router. This is an important security measure if someone else tries to guess your Wi-Fi password.

What to do

If you’ve forgotten or misplaced your WLAN network password, you can read it in Windows 10 without any further effort. To do this, right-click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar and go to Open Network and Sharing Center. Here we can see our current Wi-Fi connection.

Right-click the name of the network next to Connections. In the next window, select Wireless Connection Properties. In the Network security key field, you will find the Wi-Fi password on the Security tab. To display it legibly, place a checkmark in front of Show Characters.

Conclusion

After entering the wrong password a couple of times, we all know that Windows 10 blocks access to the Wi-Fi network. If you’ve forgotten or lost your network’s WLAN password, there is no need to enter random passwords or wait for admin access to read them.
